Great videos from www.golfzonetv.com.au and http GolfZone’s own; Sam Letoutrneau, demonstrates the one plane Golf swing.

    What is wrong? Audio works.

  3. iluvsoda23 Said,

that swing did not look very 1 planish
    mine is better

  4. samimalmstrom Said,

Great job on explaining and demonstrating Jim Hardy’s one plane swing concept.

  5. 1Spyke23 Said,

Do you have any tips to prevent the action of dropping your shoulder on the DS?
I have been hitting pushes lately and when I look at my swing on video I am doing exactly that — dropping my club outside my plane on the DS
It makes sense that it is the shoulder.
To drop the shoulder does involve an angle change in the back I believe though.
Perhaps, to keep focused on maintaining the spine angle would work?

  7. qbb01 Said,

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I tried this today and you wouldn’t believe the power i’ve been losing through my old swing. I am mainly a hip power player and this really helps to generate the power from them. I hit my drives 30metres past any place i have hit before. I normally shoot 44 over 9 today i shot 38! One hole i used a 4iron to the green is now an 8iron to the green! THIS IS AMAZING THANK YOU!!!!!

  8. dopekr Said,

thats true about the elbow drop on the downswing… that was causing my swing to be too much from inside to out, causing pushes and hooks.. not to mention a shank sometimes

  9. eeldergill Said,

Excellent explanation of the one plane swing.

  10. granty1954 Said,

I have struggled of late with power going from my game, inconsistent strikes and a few shanks rearing their ugly heads. I tried Stack and Tilt but it played havoc with my knees…
I have to say that your video was easy to understand, so today I went to the range hit a bucket of balls and immediately took it to the course .. Incredibly, my partner and I won a better ball stableford comp with 46 points. I play off a 11 handicap and today I played to 7 !!
Have you any other videos on this swing ?

  11. cockywatchman1976 Said,

    Good explanation this!

  12. PinehurstGolfer Said,

The best explaination of one plane I’ve heard- and I have Jim Hardy’s DVDs!

    Thanks!

  13. emncaity Said,

So much internal inconsistency in any explanation of 1PS, even by competent teachers (e.g., if your shoulders are pointed 3-4 ft. out past the ball, and your left arm matches your shoulder plane on the backswing, how do you get back to the ball?). And so many examples of alleged 1P swingers who actually aren’t.

  14. emncaity Said,

The truth is, there is no strict division between the two; it’s a false dichotomy that is much better characterized as a continuum of planes where, as you approach a plane that is perpendicular to your spine (flatter), your swing can bear up under more rotational force, while as you get further from that (more upright), you have to rein in that rotational force more and more, until you reach a point where it’s just about all lift and no rotation.

  15. emncaity Said,

As for player examples: Hardly any of the great players typically cited as 1Pers actually are. Even Hogan on a full backswing wasn’t quite there, although he was (and Olazabal, Immelman, and a very few more) were closer than most–which simply means those guys can go harder with rotation than other guys can. I know I’ll get blasted by the loyal following for even bringing this up, but video doesn’t lie–and if a true 1P action were the best way to play, you’d see it among all great players.

  16. emncaity Said,

This instructor, congenial and competent as he seems, isn’t really even that close to 1P at the top (draw a line through shoulder joints v. left arm, and you’ll see it). I just don’t see the usefulness in creating two such distinct models (1P v. 2P) and such a bright line between them. When I’ve brought it up before, usu. the response is “well, of course, there aren’t any perfect examples, etc.”–but if there aren’t, if everybody is actually on a continuum of planes, how useful is the theory?

  17. emncaity Said,

Still, there are good ideas here–although they’ve been advanced before. The arm-rotation thing, for instance, has been a staple of Leadbetter’s teaching since the mid-’80s, and was (along with improved leg action) probably the most important aspect of Faldo’s retooling; Faldo even has a whole section about it in his long book (”Golf: The Winning Formula”). And yes, it does bring the plane down and get the arm swing working more in harmony with the rotational forces (torso, etc.).

  18. TheBillygolfs50 Said,

IWe can have a 1P position at the top verse a 2 P position. U can be one plane if you swing like Moe Norman. The spine is bi axis. look at where the club disects the body at adress it has to climb. Moe strated with a one plane position from the adress position which even simplified the swing more. One thing here that I see is that any movement off the ball will have an effect on the shoulder tilt. Shoulder tilt is so important for one planers. It’s their angle back to impact.

  19. DASH1ful Said,

    @emncaity
I think the best demonstration of the backswing was given by given by Max Faulkner on a Peter Alliss Programme many years ago. He clearly used right shoulder joint rotation to get the lower part of his right arm perpendicular to the target allowing his arm to bend. He then levered his right back to a vertical position. The shoulers and arms will be coplanar for the reasons that I have explained on You Tube. I also provide an insight on how to get back round into the ball.

  20. roryhie Said,

@emncaity thanks for your insight, it really open my mind, pls give me more further input on Faldo’s retooling; once I had that book The Winning Formula, but I left it somewhere in LA. I agree there is no strong line for 1p 2p, the swing has always been weight shift in 2 pivot, between 2 legs, 2 hips joints etc .. I don;t know since my driver is not as dependable as Hogan. Since junior days I use TW as a blue print but my swing came out like Phil ans Sergio. pls check it out on my name.

  21. nicewave1 Said,

All sounds very plausible , but if you stop this video at the top of the backswing ( when you demonstrate the technique ) the arms are way above the shoulder plane, as in the 2plane swing , and then your arms fall straight down , so is this video incorrect , or are you unable to swing as you describe the 1plane action should be.

  22. pat52010 Said,

Please don’t listen to this guy. Study Moe Norman’s swing…nuff said!!
